Debt Collectors Council


Section 19 of Act 114 of 1998 (the Debt Collectors Act),

Which was promulgated on the 7 February 2003, provides that debt collectors are entitled to recover from debtors such ”necessary expenses and fees prescribed by the minister (of justice) in the Gazette after consultation with the Council (for Debt Collectors.)“

The Act provides that NO PERSON may collect debts on behalf of any 3rd party unless he or she is registered with the Council for Debt Collectors.





 

Credit Information Ombud


The office of the Credit Information Ombud resolves complaints from consumers and businesses that are negatively impacted by Credit information.

 

 

 

 

 

The National Credit Regulator (NCR)

 

The National Credit Regulator (NCR) was established as the regulator under the National Credit Act 34 of 2005 (the Act) and is responsible for the regulation of the South African credit industry. It is tasked with carrying out education, research, policy development, registration of industry participants, investigation of complaints, and ensuring enforcement of the Act.
